Welcome to Top Picks Wednesday! Here’s the best content for the week in the world of board game design (as decided by me!):
Design / Development Articles
There were so many great design articles this week it took me some time to narrow it down to five! This week’s top 5 articles:
#5: Law & Games: Copyrighting Games – Across the Board Games looks at the legal side of game design. Important stuff to know even though it’s not the most exciting part of the process.
#4: Post Mortem – Meltdown Games examines their failed Kickstarter campaign to determine where they went wrong.
#3 Resoure Systems: A Game of Shortages – Level 99 Games examines resources in games and how they provide meaningful decisions through scarcity. Includes some snazzy resource cards you can use in your prototypes.
#2 The Importance of Inbalance – Michael Iachini of Clay Crucible Games looks at how a game can be “over-tuned”, removing meaningful choice.
#1 Most Common Feedback for Board Game Designers – Matt Loomis goes over the very basic tips for designing a game.
Know of a resource or contest that began this week that I missed? Think a different design article should have made my top 5? Let me know in the comments!
